Fritz H. Schröder
Born in Kassel, 1937, Fritz H. Schröder studied Medicine in Hamburg, Marburg, and at the University of Saarbrücken. He completed his Urological training in Homburg/Saar and at the University of California in Los Angeles in 1971. From 1969 till 1970 he did a research fellowship at the Department of Biology, University of California, San Diego. His PhD thesis (Habilitation) was completed in 1972 and was entitled “Endocrinological and morphological studies of prostatic tumors in vitro”. From 1972 till 1976 Schröder was Associate Professor of Urology at the University of Würzburg. From 1977 till 2002 he chaired the Department of Urology Erasmus University and Academic Hospital Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Professor Schröder initiated the European Randomized study of Screening for Prostate Cancer and functioned as its international coordinator from 1994- 2012. In 2012 he was allotted membership of the American Academy of Sciences.
Fritz H. Schröder is author and co-author of more than 650 peer-reviewed publications, 197 book chapters, editor of 21 monographs and recipient of numerous research grants in the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, and at a European level. Research activities concentrate on clinical and experimental aspects of oncological urology.
